RON CARTER IS COMING TO ELBJAZZ. TICKET OFFER FROM TODAY TO MARK THE 10th ANNIVERSARY.

Hamburg, 10 December 2019 - The ELBJAZZ music programme on 5 and 6 June 2020 has grown by nine more acts: Ron Carter – Golden Striker Trio, Ron Carter and NDR Bigband, Chris Dave and the Drumhedz, Yael Naim, Vincent Peirani – Living Being, YĪN YĪN,
Noah Slee, Ishmael Ensemble and Bremer / McCoy.

Furthermore, a very special offer starts today: To celebrate its 10th anniversary, ELBJAZZ is rounding up – and offering ten tickets for the price of nine until 31 December 2019. All the info here

Having performed alongside Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Herbie Hancock, over the years the modern jazz legend Ron Carter (photo) has exerted a significant influence on jazz. The American has contributed to the release of more than 2,000 albums, making him one of the most-recorded bassists in music history. This year, the 82 year-old artist will present no fewer than two projects live at ELBJAZZ: One of his favourite formations currently is the Golden Striker Trio, with Donald Vega on piano and Russell Malone on guitar, who explore the repertoire of the Great American Songbook. And together with the NDR Bigband, Ron Carter will once again find the perfect double bass sound for the orchestral arrangements, which he will celebrate with his legendary finesse and an unbeatable elegance, both in the ensemble pieces and in solo passages.

Rolling Stone magazine regards Chris Dave as one of the 100 best drummers of all time. The American’s syncopated style astonishes even afficionados. When performing live, the extroverted bandleader favours a snake-shaped kit and up to five snare drums. And what’s more, the drummer, born in 1973, can also write songs: the funky tunes on his debut album jump boisterously between jazz, funk, hip-hop and R’n’B. His second album, with the Drumhedz, who will also accompany him to ELBJAZZ, will be released in 2020, produced by the impresario Rick Rubin.

The French-Israeli singer-songwriter Yael Naim became instantly famous in 2008 when her song “New Soul” was used for an Apple ad. Naim deconstructs chart hits, and builds reduced sound miniatures using unusual instruments. Thus, a melodica, toy piano or typewriter give Britney Spears‘ “Toxic” or Rihanna’s “Umbrella” a whole new twist. To allow her songs, which float between pop and folk, soul and jazz, to have an intimate, living room feel at ELBJAZZ, the chanteuse will accompany herself on piano, supported only by a handful of background singers.

Vincent Peirani is an artist who is celebrated throughout Europe, not least since his debut album in 2012.“What this Nice-born Parisian manages to coax out of the accordion has never been heard before”, wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Already as a classical accordionist, Peirani won numerous prizes as a teenager. He then switched musical direction, which led to him winning, among other things, three Echo Jazz awards. For some years, this “talent of the century” (Fono Forum) has played with the powerful quintet Living Being. When these five experienced jazz musicians combine the melancholy of the chanson, the sublimity of classical music and the pure power of rock, covering Led Zeppelin and Sonny Bono with unbridled energy, the audience’s jaws will drop.

YĪN YĪN are Kees Berkers and Yves Lennertz from Maastricht. The two artists have been well-known in the underground scene there for some time, thanks to their love of experimentation. YĪN YĪN reflect the sparkling essence of their musical taste, which is rooted above all in the 1960s and 1970s: Asian psych-pop meets disco beats, Tropicália snuggles up to snappy funk, enmeshed with electronic elements. On stage, the duo grows to become a quintet that matches, and perhaps even surpasses similar bands like Khruangbin when it comes to dance music.
