ELBJAZZ ANNOUNCES PROGRAMME

Hamburg, 2 April 2019 – During a press conference today, ELBJAZZ presented this year’s complete programme with all venues, programme items and times.

The musical line-up, comprising more than 50 concerts, takes place on 31 May and 1 June 2019 on a total of eight stages grouped once again around two areas – HafenCity and the shipyards of Blohm+Voss: In the Elbphilharmonie (Grand Hall, Recital Hall), on the open air stage “HfMT Young Talents” located on the square in front of the Elbphilharmonie, in St. Catherine’s church, onboard the MS Stubnitz in the Baakenhafen as well as on three stages at Blohm+Voss (main open air stage, “Am Helgen” open air stage and in the shipbuilding hall). Also in this year the ELBJAZZ is supported by the "Behörde für Kultur und Medien" Hamburg, the cultural authority of Hamburg.

The festival is rounded off by an eclectic fringe programme, which has now also been announced:

ELBJAZZ goes Virtual Reality: For the second time in a row, a virtual concert is being presented that takes the festival to the digital world – this time with the Michael Wollny Trio (photo). Equipped with Oculus Rift glasses and an own avatar, you are immersed in a spectacular world during the 15-minute show.

In cooperation with Jazzbüro Hamburg e.V., every two years during ELBJAZZ the awarding of the Hamburger Jazzpreis takes place – this time on Saturday (1 June) in the shipbuilding hall after which follows a concert given by the prize-winner.

For those mad about dance, the MS Stubnitz is the place to be: On the Saturday of the festival (1 June) an after-show party featuring Kraak & Smaak Soundsystem will take place. Groove Deck, a vinyl DJ team of four, will take over on the deck of the ship on both days of the festival (31 May + 1 June), while on DJ Night on Friday evening (31 May) Nappy G & Friends will man the turntables.

In the Kaistudio of the Elbphilharmonie, there will be a vocal workshop with Swiss artist Andreas Schaerer as well as a saxophone workshop for beginners. For children, a jazz instrument workshop is being offered.

On top of that, on Sunday following the festival (2 June) there will be a jazz worship service in St. Catherine’s church with Pastor Frank Engelbrecht and also featuring Kit Downes on the organ.

For invited guests and representatives of the media, there will be an ELBJAZZ Opening Reception on Friday (31 May) in the foyer of the Recital Hall of the Elbphilharmonie from 4pm to 5.30pm. For information and applying for participation, e-mail: opening@elbjazz.de.
