JAMIE CULLUM CONFIRMED FOR ELBJAZZ 2019.

Hamburg, 4 December 2018 – Jamie Cullum (photo) is coming to ELBJAZZ 2019! Furthermore, the music programme has grown by another ten acts:
NDR Bigband & Randy Brecker, Altin Gün, Kokoroko, TOYTOY – Bambule [rejazzed], Jungle By Night, Shalosh, Teresa Bergman, Kaiit, Butcher Brown and KID BE KID feat. Julia Kadel

Jamie Cullum has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, and received a number of awards including a Grammy, two Golden Globes and a Brit Award. That makes the British artist not only Great Britain’s most successful jazz musician, but also an international phenomenon. Whether jazz, pop or rock, this exceptional artist succeeds in transcending genres, thanks to his predilection for a variety of music styles. Cullum’s tremendous success is also down to the fact that in his live performances he is an unbeatable entertainer – as he has so impressively proved time and again, including at ELBJAZZ 2013.

The NDR Bigband with its extraordinary projects has been part of ELBJAZZ from the very beginning. In 2019 US trumpeter Randy Brecker, founding member of Blood, Sweat & Tears, will be there live to present his show.

The six-member band Altin Gün describes its music as “Turkish psych folk from Amsterdam” in which Turkish folk tunes strike up an alliance with funk rhythms, wah-wah guitars and analogue retro organ.

The Kokoroko collective from London plays a raw, yet profoundly soulful version of Afrobeat influenced by Fela Kuti. What makes the group so special are the horns that, with their West African rhythms and urban jazz grooves, draw ecstatic reactions from audiences – and that the brass section is all female.

TOYTOY – made up of three of the most talented musicians of the young Hamburg jazz scene – cannot be tied down to any one genre: laid-back rock meets smooth funk and tight jazz. They play “Bambule” from the Beginners. Twenty years after the release of this Hamburg hip-hop classic TOYTOY transfer the album into their very own instrumental jazz realm – vocal features not excluded.

Kaiit is Australia’s most promising newcomer. She will be coming to Europe for the first time in spring 2019. She has released just a handful of songs, but they’ve got what it takes: the most easy-going neo-soul coupled with influences of jazz, R'n'B and hip-hop, garnished with the warm voice of the 21-year-old; songs reminiscent of Lauryn Hill or Erykah Badu.

Current programme:
Jamie Cullum, Tower of Power, Michael Wollny Trio, Manu Katché, Julia Hülsmann – Artist in Residence, NDR Bigband & Randy Brecker, Benny Golson Quartet, Kamaal Williams, Joja Wendt, Jason Moran, Melanie De Biasio, Altin Gün, Alfa Mist, Kokoroko, FOR YOU – In Memory of Wolfgang Schlüter, TOYTOY – Bambule [rejazzed], Jungle By Night, Shalosh, ADHD, Teresa Bergman, Kit Downes, Kaiit, Butcher Brown, Glass Museum, KID BE KID feat. Julia Kadel, Marco Mezquida – Ravel’s dreams
